Iron City Acquisitions is celebrating the one-year anniversary of one of our sales leaders, John Freeman! To celebrate his achievements and the value he has added to our team in the last year, we sat down for a one-on-one conversation with John to discuss life, business, and the arts.
Where are you from?
“I was primarily born and bred in El Paso, Texas until I was 18, then left for New York in 2004.”
What were you like as a child?
“I was definitely outgoing as a kid because I'm actually an Actor and have an agent in Nashville. I played and dressed the part of Harpo Marx and Charlie Chaplin at the age of 4. I became more studious later in life when I went to middle school and figured out that I was actually smart.”
Were you involved in any sports or extracurriculars?
“I loved to run cross country even though I was a little too tall for it.”
How did that competitive environment develop you?
“I always knew that I could beat anybody in a race, especially since people have a tendency to flex their muscles in high school.”
Did you have any idea that you would end up in this field?
“I never would have thought I would wind up in sales and marketing, especially in this field.”
Tell us about your college experience.
“I graduated from Adelphi University in 2009 with a BFA in Theatre. Believe it or not, that definitely set the pace for my particular position! As for work, I have been both a server and a line cook! So, I've never been afraid of hard work!”
What is something we might not know just by looking at you?
“I hosted and organized a black light, body paint, lingerie fashion show with the Art Kartel in NYC! It is one of my proudest achievements and showed me how to be solution oriented.”
What were your first thoughts when joining the team?
“I had no idea what was going on in this atmosphere, so I just went with the flow. I especially appreciated Christian Cardwell and his energy during my second-round interview!”
How would you describe the culture at your company?
“Fun and professional. This is a people helping people business! We all understand the struggle in life can be real. Our job is to help others overcome that.”
What have you learned through your work that you didn’t know before?
“I've learned how to have and maintain a positive attitude and be more solution oriented. In life we have to learn how to control the controllables, and not harp over the uncontrollables. The opportunity has taught me that I can do anything I set my heart to! It has also shown that true dedication and hard work pays off.”
As for his goals, John Freeman has his eye on the prize. “I want to further persevere in all my endeavors including my acting and help secure a future for my family,” says the team leader. He gives special thanks to his greatest mentor, Christian Cardwell. When he is not in the office, Freeman can be found reading or hitting the beach. “I love to read books about outer space,” says Freeman, “I am continually seeking out my position in life, the world, and the universe.”
